World famous wine growing areas linking Slovenia and Austria have a lot in common: picturesque vineyards where exquisite wines are grown, cultural gems and above all friendly locals who warm-heartedly welcome guests.

The Styrian wine road is a proof that wine doesn't know any state borders and that here, only the best experiences connected to vine, grapes and wine are created – which could not be possible without the touch of friendly people.

South Styrian Wine Road – Austria

Old flamboyance, new life: South Styrian Wine Road gets a lot of compliments. Warm people, cherished vineyards, refreshing wine, excellent wineries, glowing pumpkin fields and orchards are some of the most popular attractions that can be seen everywhere and dictate the rhythm of life – of locals and visitors alike. The pillars of this wine road are pleasant towns, like Berghausen, Ehrenhousen, Gamlitz, Leutscach, Schloßberg and Ratsch.
In vineyards, the most common variety is Welschriesling, whereas in the Styrian region the most recognized variety is Sauvignon. The region is also known as the land of Traminer. In the western part, we can also find a special variety of rosé wine – Schiller. Food lovers would never miss the opportunity to taste the genuine Styrian pumpkin seed oil and dishes prepared with pumpkin seeds and pumpkin seed oil. Fruit and herbal liquors, vinegars, jams, jellies and other delicacies are some of the flavours which are proudly represented here.
Viny hills, slopes covered with apple trees and old mixed forests offer delightful and interesting hikes. Easy hiking trails and family-friendly cycling trails lead past sunny wineries offering regional delicacies.
You can find small, traditional farms along these wine routes, but also internationally renowned winemakers with cellars that are becoming real architectural achievements.

Styrian Wine Road – Slovenia

Enchanting views expand over Slovenian and Austrian side ... The northernmost of the three wine routes winds through hills of the upper, north-western part of the wine growing region of Slovenske gorice and covers the area next to the Austrian border. This wonderful landscape hides numerous treasures along its wine roads. There are natural and cultural attractions that can only be found here and cannot wait to be discovered. You can taste the wine tradition of this region in contemporary, mostly white grape varieties like Welschriesling, Sauvignon, Traminer, Yellow Muscat, Silvaner, Pinot Gris, which are among the world's leading wines. Wine and food lovers and everyone who values tradition and customs will take a great delight in visiting these and more off-thebeaten path routes.
The wine road will take you through charming towns of Sv. Jurij, Sve ina, Pla , Kungota, Pesnica, Velka, Jarenina, Pernica and Jakobski dol. The most recognizable part is the heart amidst the vineyards where the road meanders through vineyards in the shape of a heart, which can be plainly visible from the top. Cycling and hiking amidst green hills, vines and enjoying views of vast sunlit grain fields and beautiful landscape fascinate visitors from all around the world.

You are welcome to use our free wine shuttle to visit Southern Styria Wine Road in Austria and Slovenian Styria wine roads.

Shuttle is available every Saturday, April through October, at 11 a.m., 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.

To visit Maribor and its numerous sights, such as the oldest vine in the world, the magnificent Lent, Maribor Old Castle and more, feel free to use also public transportation. The bus station with regular departure for Maribor is located only one kilometer from the Hotel Mond**** Superior, and Šentilj railway station two kilometers.
